Waiting
Inside an IHOP (within this nation),
You deliberately wait and fight temptation.
Syrup seeps into pancakes forming single combinations,
A sticky, starchy transmutation,
And you experience a kind of salivation
Called sweet anticipation.
Between ordering and hunger's salvation
There is a particularly rightful indignation
As you curse the foreigners inside the kitchen,
The government's stance on immigration,
The under-funding of special education,
And the human love of procrastination.
But things must taste sweeter after frustration
Or you'd just have an instant breakfast from Carnation.
